Frequently asked questions

Shockwave Therapy treatments are safe and non-invasive. A shockwave is a sound wave which is about 1000 times stronger than an ultrasound. They create changes in the tissue at a microscopic level disrupting the chronic pain pathways.

Shockwave Therapy can induce an instant therapeutic effect by inhibiting substance-P production (a peptide involved in the perception of pain). As such, the majority of patients experience pain reduction and a greater range of movement immediately after the procedure.

Long-term tissue healing generally begins after a few days, and may continue for weeks to months.

We will always recommend at least two treatments to assess the effectiveness of shockwave therapy for you. Usually between 3-5 treatments are required to achieve a therapeutic effect resulting in tissue resolution and healing.
